Dear All,
What if I told you that I had planned a surprise day for you, a day that was one big surprise full of the most special twists, spontaneous encounters and moments to be amazed by. But, what if I were to reveal everything almost immediately after I told you this? I would reveal how the day would go, everything I had planned, and what you would experience from moment to moment? What would happen? It would spoil the surprise and perhaps take away a large part of the fun because everything has already become clear and the joy of being surprised has suddenly disappeared. This is a pretty accurate metaphor for what happens when we project our expectations onto certain situations. Every moment is a surprise, we never know in advance how it will unfold, but we are given the opportunity to experience what happens when it happens. Yet our expectation is like trying to reveal a surprise before it has happened. When we project our expectations we deprive ourselves of the opportunity to be surprised by the spontaneity of the moment and therein, in that moment lies the wonder of the human experience. Life is a surprise and we are on the receiving end of that surprise, if, if we dare to be surprised by life again and again.
“Life is a surprise and we are on the receiving end of that surprise.”
May your week be full of wonder, sven
